Good luck, bad luck, who knows?
As of 12:00:00AM yesterday, I’ve been laid off…
Not exactly quite the way I envisioned starting my own site, but since it’s such a significant event in any normal person’s life, I thought I’d mention it. I’m not particularly surprised nor going through any shock/denial whatsoever; after all, I’ve been on the back burner for the past 2 1/2 mths while the company scrambles to find/close new deals. Unfortunately, small companies can’t seem to weather the storm as well, and so my company decided to cut most of the [highly-paid] all-star team loose. Whether that was a right decision or not, I’m in no position to say, but only time will tell.
Weblog Moral #1: It’s more advantageous to hold a desk job in times of Recession, and be a consultant in times of Procession.
Luckily I could see this happen since the beginning of Jan, so I’ve built up a nice nest egg and made some contingency plans that are already set in motion. When successful, I should generate enough passive income and “retire” early, dedicating my time to open source projects and personal time.
Until then, hope this credit crisis does not negatively jeopardise your life, but in the case that it does, my advice is being negative only makes it worse. I am young, intelligent, and resourceful; I’m looking this as more of an opportunity than a misfortune.
For those that can recognize the chance of a lifetime in the economy is now, you will go far, believe me.
